About Rehmat e Alam ﷺ by Allama Syed Sulaiman Nadvi

Rehmat e Alam ﷺ is a short and easy-to-read Urdu biography of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, written by the great scholar and historian Allama Syed Sulaiman Nadvi (RH). The title means “Mercy to the Worlds”, a description taken from the Qur’an, where Allah Almighty tells His Messenger ﷺ that He sent him only as a mercy to all the worlds. Rehmat e Alam was written mainly for school children, yet it is valued by adults too for being simple in language while remaining authentic. Please message us on WhatsApp at 9906523492 for details of the copy in stock, such as the publisher and number of pages.

Why Rehmat e Alam was written

Syed Sulaiman Nadvi (RH) wrote this book to introduce young readers to the life of the Prophet ﷺ and to inspire love for him in their hearts. Many seerah books are long and scholarly. Rehmat e Alam takes the essential story and tells it in clear, simple Urdu so that a child can read it alone and understand it. That is why it has long been a trusted choice for children, parents and teachers.

What the book covers

  • The life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told in a clear, connected way
  • His character, mercy, truthfulness and kindness
  • The message of Islam that he delivered from Allah Almighty
  • Lessons from the seerah that children can carry into daily life

About the author, Allama Syed Sulaiman Nadvi (RH)

Allama Syed Sulaiman Nadvi (RH) was born on 22 November 1884 in Desna, in the Patna district of Bihar, and passed away on 22 November 1953 in Karachi. He graduated from Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow in 1906 and later taught Arabic and theology there. He was one of the favourite students of Allama Shibli Nomani (RH), and after Shibli’s death in 1914 he completed the famous multi-volume biography of the Prophet ﷺ, Sirat-un-Nabi, which his teacher had begun. He also founded Darul Musannifin (Shibli Academy) in Azamgarh. Allama Iqbal held him in great respect and called him “Ustad ul Kul”, the teacher of all.

His other works include Khutbat-e-Madras, Seerat-e-Aisha, Arab-o-Hind ke Ta’alluqat and The Arab Navigation. Rehmat e Alam carries the same scholarship as these larger books, distilled into a form that children can enjoy.

Why Rehmat e Alam matters

Love for the Prophet ﷺ is part of a Muslim’s faith, and love grows from knowing. A child who reads the seerah learns how the Prophet ﷺ treated his family, his neighbours, children, the poor and even those who opposed him. These are lessons in character that no other book can teach in quite the same way. Because this book was written by one of the leading seerah scholars of the subcontinent, parents can hand it to their children with confidence. The book has also been translated into English under the title Mercy to the World, which shows how widely it is valued.

Who should read Rehmat e Alam

  • School children who can read Urdu and are beginning to learn the seerah
  • Parents who want to read the life of the Prophet ﷺ with their children
  • Teachers in schools and madrasas looking for a reliable, simple seerah text
  • Adults who want a short, clear introduction before reading longer works such as Sirat-un-Nabi
  • Families in Kashmir and across India looking for a meaningful Islamic gift

How to benefit from the book

Read a few pages at a time with your child and talk about one quality of the Prophet ﷺ at each sitting: his honesty, his patience, his generosity or his gentleness. Ask how that quality can be practised at home or at school. Encourage children to send salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ whenever his name is read. Older readers can use the book as a short revision of the seerah, or as a first step before moving on to Sirat-un-Nabi.
