Manhiyyat: Prohibitions in Islam | Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid | IIPH Book

A systematic reference listing prohibitions established in the Qur’an and Sunnah, organised by category for quick lookup

Covers matters of creed, worship, speech, social conduct, dress and appearance, travel, and dealings with others

Each entry is stated concisely with its textual basis, making the book usable as a checklist rather than a continuous read

By Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid, a widely read contemporary author known for accessible fatwa-based writing

Published by IIPH; English translation with Arabic terminology retained and explained

Description

Manhiyyat gathers into one volume the things a Muslim is prohibited from doing according to the Qur’an and Sunnah, arranged so a reader can find a topic quickly.

Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid works through the prohibitions category by category — matters relating to belief and creed, to acts of worship, to speech and argument, to company and social conduct, to appearance and dress, and to conduct in daily dealings. Entries are short and stated plainly, each grounded in a textual proof rather than argued at length, which is what makes the book function as a reference: a reader checking a specific matter can find it and see the basis for the ruling without reading the surrounding chapters.

The scope is deliberately broad, covering matters that are widely known alongside ones many readers will not have encountered.

Suitable as a household reference, for students of knowledge, for imams and teachers, and for anyone wanting an organised overview of what falls outside the permitted. English text with Arabic terms and references. Published by IIPH.
