About Awrad E Fatiha with Translation

Awrad E Fatiha (also written Awrad-e-Fathiya) is a collection of Arabic litanies and supplications that is closely associated with Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani, known in Kashmir as Shah-e-Hamadan. It is built around the oneness of Allah, remembrance (dhikr) and seeking forgiveness, and it is widely recited in Kashmir, traditionally after the Fajr prayer. This edition presents Awrad E Fatiha with a translation of its meanings, so that those who recite it can also understand it.

In many Kashmiri mosques and homes, Awrad E Fatiha is a part of the daily routine. A pocket-sized edition with translation helps the reciter to follow the words and to reflect on the meaning of what is said.

What this booklet offers

  • The Arabic text of Awrad E Fatiha for recitation
  • A translation of its meanings for understanding
  • A slim paperback that is easy to carry to the masjid or keep at home
  • Authors named on this edition: Bilal Ahmad Mir and Mushtaq Ahmad Dar

About Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani

Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani was a Persian Sufi scholar of the Kubrawiya order, born in Hamadan in Iran in the 14th century and passing away in 1384. He travelled to Kashmir and is remembered there as one of the most important figures in the spread of Islam and of the arts and crafts of the region. He also wrote many treatises. In Kashmir he is lovingly called Shah-e-Hamadan, and his anniversary is observed every year.

Who should read this book

This booklet is for anyone who recites Awrad E Fatiha and wishes to understand it, for students who are new to the practice, and for families who want a clear, small edition for the home. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a relative or a friend.

Reciting with understanding

Remembrance of Allah is most beneficial when it is done with presence of heart. Read the Arabic slowly and with correct pronunciation, learn from a teacher if you are unsure, and then read the translation to reflect on the meaning. Reciting at a fixed time each day makes it easier to keep the practice regular. Sending salutations on the Prophet ﷺ along with the dhikr is a fine habit.

The place of dhikr in daily life

Remembrance of Allah is one of the simplest and most beloved acts of worship. The Qur’an invites believers to remember Allah often, and many Muslims keep a fixed time each day for dhikr and supplication. In Kashmir, reciting Awrad E Fatiha after Fajr is a long-standing practice in many communities, and a small, clear edition makes it easy to join in or to teach children.

A booklet for the home and the masjid

Because it is slim and affordable, Awrad E Fatiha with translation is easy to keep in the home, in a bag or at the masjid. Families often buy several copies so that each person can follow along together. It can also be given as a thoughtful present for a new learner, for a relative who is travelling, or for a new home.
