For details of the copy in stock, please message us on WhatsApp at 9906523492.

Who was Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RH)?

Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RH) was born around 1077 or 1078 CE in Gilan and settled in Baghdad, where he studied fiqh and hadith. He returned to public preaching in 1127, taught hadith, Quranic commentary and jurisprudence, and became a centre of learning at the Madrasa al-Qadiriyya. He passed away in Baghdad in 1166 CE (561 AH). The Qadiriyya Sufi path takes its name from him and has followers across the Muslim world, and he is remembered with great love and respect.

His writings

  • Al-Ghunya li-Talibi Tariq al-Haqq, a work on belief, jurisprudence, ethics and spiritual practice
  • Futuh al-Ghayb, a collection of discourses on spiritual discipline and religious life

These works show a teacher who joined sound knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah with a call to purify the heart.

What this biography is about

The book presents the life of the Shaykh and explains tasawwuf as it is understood in the tradition of Islam. In simple terms, tasawwuf is the effort to purify the heart, to turn sincerely to Allah Almighty and to follow the example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in character and worship. A biography of the Shaykh is a natural way to explore this subject, because his teaching always stressed sincerity, repentance, truthfulness, good conduct and reliance on Allah.

Themes you can expect to reflect on

  • The importance of seeking knowledge and acting upon it
  • Truthfulness and honesty in everyday dealings
  • Repentance and returning to Allah after mistakes
  • Patience and gratitude in hardship and in ease
  • Humility, service to people and care for the poor
  • Love for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and following his Sunnah as the base of all spiritual progress

Why this book matters

Many people hear the title Ghaus-e-Azam or Sultan of the Saints without knowing the life behind it. A biography helps replace rumour with reading and sets the Shaykh within his time, his teaching and his devotion. It also clears a common confusion: real tasawwuf is not separate from the shariah. It stands on the Quran and the Sunnah and aims to improve character.

Who should read it

  • Students of Islamic Studies who want to understand Sufism through a biography
  • Followers of the Qadiriyya path who prefer to read in English
  • Young readers in Kashmir and elsewhere who know the Shaykh’s name and wish to learn his life
  • Teachers and speakers preparing talks on spiritual reform
  • Anyone seeking an inspiring Islamic biography for a home library or as a gift

How to benefit from the book

Read a few pages each night and pause at any lesson that touches you. Write it down and choose one small action, such as speaking truthfully for a whole day or making sincere istighfar after each prayer. Read with the intention of improving yourself, not of debating others. If you have questions about religious rulings, ask a trusted scholar. A biography of a saint is most beneficial when it is paired with prayer, the recitation of the Quran and regular salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
