About the author

Dr. Mehmood Ahmad Ghazi (RH) was born in 1950 at Kandhla in Uttar Pradesh, India, and became a well-known Pakistani scholar of Islamic studies and fiqh. He taught at the International Islamic University in Islamabad, served as Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and later as a judge of the Federal Shariat Court. He wrote around thirty books. His Muhazirat series, the lectures he gave on the Qur’an, Hadith, fiqh, Seerah and Shariah, is among his best-known work. Muhazirat E Hadith is the volume dedicated to Hadith. May Allah Almighty have mercy on him and accept his service to knowledge.

What Muhazirat E Hadith covers

• The history of Hadith, from the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his Companions onwards
• How Hadith was taught, written down and transmitted across the generations
• The sciences of Hadith, the tools scholars use to judge a report
• The place of the Sunnah as a source of guidance beside the Qur’an
• An overview that connects the early period of Hadith with later developments

Why a lecture format works well

Technical subjects such as Hadith terminology can feel heavy in a textbook. Lectures are written to be understood on first hearing, so the language stays clear, the examples are chosen carefully and each topic leads naturally to the next. The Urdu of the Muhazirat series is known for being accessible to students and general readers, which makes this book a good first step before moving on to larger classical works in Arabic.

Why studying Hadith matters

The Qur’an commands believers to obey Allah and obey the Messenger ﷺ. We can only follow the Sunnah if we know it reached us reliably. The science of Hadith explains how scholars examined the chains of narrators, the character of each narrator and the text of each report, so that the words of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ could be separated from what was falsely attributed to him. Knowing this history gives a Muslim confidence in the sources of the religion and protects against careless sharing of weak or unverified reports.

Who should read it

• Students of Islamic Studies at school, college and university level
• Madrasa students who want a clear Urdu overview of Hadith studies
• Teachers, imams and speakers who refer to hadith in their talks
• Urdu readers who want to understand how the Sunnah has been preserved
• Study circles and libraries in Srinagar, Kashmir and across India

How to benefit from the book

Treat each lecture as a lesson. Read it once for the main idea, then reread and note the technical terms and their meanings in a notebook. Discuss them with a teacher or study partner. After finishing a lecture, look at a hadith you know well and ask how a scholar would assess it. Pair this book with a collection such as Sahih al-Bukhari or Sahih Muslim in translation so that the theory is matched by the real texts. Always send salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when his name appears, and ask Allah to make your learning a source of action.
