About Fiqh Us Sunnah – Abridged

Fiqh Us Sunnah – Abridged is the shortened English edition of one of the most widely read modern works of Islamic jurisprudence, written by Shaykh Sayyid Sabiq (RH). The book presents rulings grounded directly in the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, in language an ordinary reader can follow. If you are looking for a practical guide to Fiqh Us Sunnah in English that you can keep at home and consult for questions on worship, this paperback from Adam Publications is a good choice. Message us on WhatsApp at 9906523492 for details of the copy in stock, including the year and number of pages.

About the author

Sayyid Sabiq (1915 to 2000) was born in Egypt, studied at Al-Azhar and went on to serve in Egypt’s ministry for religious affairs and to teach in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He wrote Fiqh Us Sunnah in the 1940s, at a time when many people felt that fiqh books were too technical for ordinary readers. His aim was to bring the rulings back to their sources, the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah, and to present the views of the major Sunni schools of law without favouring one against the others. The work has since been translated into dozens of languages and read across the world. May Allah Almighty have mercy on him and reward him for his service.

What the abridged edition covers

The abridged English edition is centred on the acts of worship. According to a retailer’s description of the abridged edition, its topics include:

  • Purification, including the rules of water, wudu and ghusl
  • Prayer (Salah) and its conditions and etiquettes
  • Funeral rites
  • Remembrance of Allah (dhikr)
  • Zakah, the obligatory charity
  • Fasting (Siyam)
  • Pilgrimage (Hajj)

Why the Fiqh Us Sunnah approach is useful

Many readers meet fiqh as a list of rulings without the reasoning behind them. Fiqh Us Sunnah takes another path: it connects each ruling to a verse or a hadith, so the reader understands why an act of worship is done in a particular way. This builds confidence in the practice of the religion and helps a believer see that Islamic law is rooted in revelation. Because it respects the four Sunni schools, it also teaches the useful habit of treating differences among scholars with fairness and humility.

Who should read it

  • Students and teachers of Islamic Studies who want a clear English reference on worship
  • New Muslims learning how to perform purification, prayer, fasting and Hajj
  • Families who want a reliable book of rulings in the home
  • Imams, speakers and community workers who answer everyday questions
  • Readers preparing for Ramadan, Zakah calculations or the journey of Hajj

How to benefit from the book

Read one chapter at a time and apply it before moving on. If you are reading about prayer, check your own Salah against what you learn. If you are reading about fasting, review it before Ramadan arrives, and if you are reading about Zakah, sit down with your family and see what applies to you. When the book mentions a difference among the schools, note which school you and your local scholars follow, and ask a qualified scholar about any situation that is unclear or personal. Fiqh is learned best by practice and by sitting with people of knowledge. Send salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ whenever you read his name.

A paperback for daily use

A paperback edition is light, easy to carry and comfortable to read in short sessions, whether at home in Srinagar, in a study circle or on the way to the masjid. It sits well beside a Qur’an translation and a collection of hadith, and it makes a useful gift for a student or a newly married couple setting up their first home library.
