Apna Aqeedah Seekhein

About Apna Aqeedah Seekhein

Apna Aqeedah Seekhein is an Urdu book on the basics of Islamic belief, written by Shaykh Muhammad bin Jamil Zeno in a simple question and answer style. The title means “learn your aqeedah”, and that is exactly what the book sets out to help every Muslim do. If you are looking for a short, clear way to learn the basics of belief step by step, Apna Aqeedah Seekhein in this Maktaba Faheem edition is an easy place to begin.

Aqeedah means the beliefs that a Muslim holds firmly in the heart: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day and divine decree. A correct understanding of these matters is the base on which prayer, fasting, character and every other part of the religion stands.

About the author

Shaykh Muhammad bin Jamil Zeno (1925 to 2010) was born in Aleppo, Syria. He memorised the Qur’an in his youth, studied at the University of Aleppo and taught in his home city for 29 years. He later taught at a madrasa in the Grand Mosque in Makkah, and from around 1979 he taught for many years at Dar-ul-Hadith al-Khairiyah in Makkah. He is known for writing short books on the basics of the religion for ordinary readers.

Why learning your aqeedah comes first

When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ called people to Islam, the first thing he taught was the oneness of Allah. Belief comes before the details of practice, because worship done with a mistaken belief cannot stand firm. A person who knows what he believes and why is protected from doubt and confusion, and is able to explain his faith to others in a calm and clear way.

Many Muslims grow up practising their religion without ever having sat down to study its basic beliefs in order. A book of questions and answers is a gentle way to fill that gap, because each answer is short and can be learned and revised on its own.

How the question and answer style helps

• Each question is short and focused on one idea
• Answers are brief enough to be remembered and repeated
• Children and adults can read it together in a family circle
• Teachers can use it as a quick quiz or lesson plan
• Readers can go back to any question without reading the whole book again

Who should read Apna Aqeedah Seekhein

• New students of Islamic knowledge who want a simple starting point in Urdu
• Parents who want to teach their children the foundations of faith
• Madrasa and Sunday school teachers who need an easy classroom text
• Muslims who want to revise the basics they learned long ago
• New Muslims and those learning Urdu who need plain language

How to benefit from the book

Read a few questions every day, perhaps after Fajr or before bed, and try to answer them aloud before reading the printed answer. Where a question raises a doubt, write it down and take it to a trusted scholar, rather than searching for answers in places of unknown reliability. Teach what you have learned to your family, since teaching is one of the surest ways to remember. Ask Allah for firmness upon the truth, and send salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often as you study.

A useful gift and classroom book

Because it is short and affordable, this book is easy to give in numbers. Many people buy several copies to hand out to students, relatives or members of a study circle, and it suits mosque libraries as well.
