What Islamic Studies at senior secondary level usually includes

Islamic Studies courses are generally built around a few broad areas. The exact units of the book in stock depend on its edition, so please confirm with us before you buy for a specific syllabus:

• The Qur’an: its revelation, compilation and selected verses with their meanings
• The Prophet ﷺ: his character, his mission and lessons from his life
• Hadith: selected sayings and their guidance for daily conduct
• Beliefs and worship: the pillars of faith, prayer, fasting, zakat and Hajj
• Islamic ethics and social values: honesty, justice, kindness and responsibility
• Islamic history and civilisation, and the contribution of Muslims to knowledge

Why Islamic Studies matters for a student

For a young Muslim, Islamic Studies is more than a subject in the timetable. It is a chance to connect school learning with faith and character. A student who understands why the Prophet ﷺ is called a mercy to the worlds, and why Allah Almighty commands truthfulness and justice, carries those values into the family, the classroom and later working life. It also gives students from any background a respectful, informed view of one of the world’s major religions.

Who should use this book

• Students of Class 12th who have Islamic Studies in their course
• Students who want a well-organised reference for revision
• Teachers who need a text to plan lessons or to set questions
• Parents who wish to support a child at home with an Islamic Studies book
• Students planning to continue Islamic Studies in college

How to study Islamic Studies effectively

Read each chapter once for understanding and once for notes. Write short summaries in your own words, list the key terms and learn the main verses and hadith with their meanings. Practise writing answers in clear paragraphs, with a short introduction, the main points and a conclusion. Discuss difficult topics with your teacher, since some matters need proper guidance. Revise a little every day rather than all at once before an exam. Begin your study with a prayer to Allah, and send salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ whenever his name is mentioned.

A note on syllabus and exams

Boards and schools set their own syllabus, and a reference book cannot promise coverage of any particular one. Please check your latest syllabus and, if you are unsure whether this title suits your course, message us and we will help you understand what is in the copy we hold. No book can promise marks; steady study and practice give the best results.
