About the author, Abu Yahya

Abu Yahya is the pen name of Rehan Ahmed Yousufi, a Pakistani scholar and novelist born in Karachi in 1969. He holds degrees from the University of Karachi and Hamdard University, including a doctorate in Islamic Studies. He is known for presenting Islamic themes of faith, morality and the Qur’an through novels. His best known series includes Jab Zindagi Shuru Hogi, Qasam Us Waqt Ki, Akhri Jang, Khuda Bol Raha Hai and Adhuri Kahani. In 2013 he founded the Inzaar institution, which publishes a monthly magazine of the same name.

What God Speaks is about

The novel is described as a continuation of the author’s earlier work Jab Zindagi Shuru Hogi. It follows the journey of a character named Abdullah in Paradise, and it weaves in other storylines, among them a man whose life has been ruined and a young girl who wishes to make her own world a little like Paradise. Through these characters the story shows how the teachings of the Qur’an can transform a person’s heart and conduct. To keep the pleasure of reading for you, we will not describe the plot beyond this.

Themes you will meet in the book

• The majesty and guidance of the Qur’an and its power to change lives
• Hope, repentance and a fresh start for people who feel they have lost their way
• The idea that one can bring the values of Paradise into daily life on earth
• Accountability before Allah Almighty and the reality of the Hereafter

Why a novel about the Qur’an?

Many readers find that a story reaches them where a sermon cannot. By placing the Qur’an at the centre of a narrative, Abu Yahya invites the reader to feel what it means to be addressed by Allah. Allah Almighty describes the Qur’an as guidance for mankind, and a novel that makes the reader reflect on that guidance can encourage a return to the Book itself. It is not a replacement for tafsir or for the Qur’an, but it can awaken interest in both.

Who should read God Speaks

• Readers of Islamic fiction who enjoy stories with a spiritual purpose
• Those who have read Abu Yahya’s earlier novels and wish to continue the series
• Young adults looking for a thoughtful, faith-centred story
• Book clubs and study circles that like to discuss themes and not only plot
• Anyone who wants to give a meaningful gift for Ramadan or Eid

How to benefit from the novel

Read it with a pen at hand and mark the passages that touch your heart. After finishing a section, take a few minutes to open the Qur’an and read a few verses on the same theme in a translation you trust. Think about one small change you can make, such as reciting the Qur’an daily, reflecting on its meaning or acting on a single command. Talk about the story with your family or friends. Send salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and ask Allah to make the Qur’an the spring of your heart.

A series to follow

Because the book is part of a connected series of novels by the same author, many readers enjoy beginning with the first and moving on in order. If you are new to Abu Yahya, ask us on WhatsApp and we will help you choose where to start.
