The Ideal Muslim Society

The Ideal Muslim Society – Muhammad Ali al-Hashimi | Qur’an & Sunnah IIPH

The Ideal Muslim Society: As Defined in the Qur’an and Sunnah by Dr. Muhammad Ali al-Hashimi describes the kind of society Islam aims to build, based on the teachings of the Qur’an and the example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is published by the International Islamic Publishing House (IIPH).

The book covers the values and qualities that should define Muslim communities, including justice, compassion, mutual responsibility, and good character. It explains how these values shape relationships within the family, among neighbours, and across society as a whole.

A notable part of the book discusses the rights of non-Muslims living in a Muslim society. The author explains that the social security guaranteed by Islam covered everyone, so that no person should be left without food, clothing, shelter, or medical care. He gives historical examples, such as the second caliph Umar (RA) providing for an elderly Jewish man from the public treasury, and orders that sick Christians in Damascus be given regular charity and food. He also explains the right to freedom of religion, citing the verse “There is no compulsion in religion” (Qur’an 2:256).

Points are supported by verses of the Qur’an, hadith, and references to classical works of Islamic history.

This book suits students of Islamic studies, community leaders, and anyone who wants to understand the social teachings of Islam. It also complements the author’s well-known books The Ideal Muslim and The Ideal Muslimah. It comes in a hardcover with a ribbon bookmark.
